Jan Preston's ability and flair as a boogie, honky tonk and ragtime piano player have earned her the title of Australia's "Queen of the boogie woogie piano". Her skills on the keys are matched by a richly resonant voice and exuberant stage personality.

She has received four awards for Best Female Blues Artist and Blues Artist of the Year, is in high demand on the festival circuit and a regular performer on radio.

Born in a small New Zealand town where people made their own entertainment, Preston says her earliest memories are of singalongs at the piano to the boogie woogie and honky tonk rhythm. "Even when I went on to study classical music," she says, "I still had the sounds of barrelhouse in my ears".

"In a world which is, at times, very sad, there is nothing so joyful and uplifting as the boogie woogie piano beat."
