"The evening featured pianist Mike Nock leading a superb trio... There is no doubt that Nock is in his prime, and it was a privilege to watch him interact and be inspired with such obvious delight." - Stonnington Jazz Festival review
Along with jazz pianist/composer extraordinaire Mike Nock, this Australian-based trio features bassist Ben Waples and drummer James Waples. Now ranked among the best of Australia's young musicians, the talented brothers began their musical journey as members of an award-winning four-hand piano duo.
Ben, who plays both acoustic and electric bass, came second place in the 2008 Australian National Jazz Awards and has toured and recorded with experimental electronic trio TRIOSK since 2003. Before taking up the drums, his younger brother James studied as a classical pianist. James's impeccable sense of time and musical sensitivity have made him a favourite with many top Australian musicians.
During the 1970s, Nock's work with groundbreaking group The Fourth Way established him as a creative force in modern music. With the Creative Electronic Trio, Nock is re-exploring the electronic soundscape, creating a new sound for a new generation.
