“...Mixing up the best bits of funk, soul, disco and jazz into a satisfying and groovesome whole” - BBC
The most visible and award winning jazz vibraphonists of the 1960s, then an R&B bandleader in the 1970s and ’80s, Roy Ayers’ reputation is now that of one of the prophets of acid jazz, a man decades ahead of his time. His relaxed and funky 1976 hit song “Everybody Loves the Sunshine” has been frequently sampled, as well as many others, leading to the declaration that no one other than James Brown has been more of an inspiration to modern R&B and hip hop performers.
Alongside pop success, collaborations with artists such as Fela Kuti has kept Ayers in the spotlight over the decades. Vibrant live shows continue to spread the message of Roy Ayers’ crisp, lyrical and rhythmical passion.
