The 18-member strong Vaughn Roberts Big Band features musicians who perform regularly with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, The Black Seeds, the Vector Wellington Orchestra and other fine ensembles.

In 2006, the group's debut recording Grrreat Stuff picked up a New Zealand Music Award for Best Jazz Album. The big band's repertoire consists exclusively of original compositions and creative arrangements by its leader, Vaughn Roberts.

Vaughn Roberts is one of New Zealand's prominent jazz trumpeters and finest composers and arrangers. He has performed worldwide with such artists as Norah Jones, Kiri Te Kanawa, Che Fu, Rob Guest, Hayley Westenra, and Gerry Mulligan. Currently, Vaughn is lead trumpet on the live band for TVNZ's award-winning series "Dancing With The Stars" and co-ordinator of the New Zealand School of Music Jazz Academy - a programme for gifted high school students.
